lGolden Retriever Foundation Gala

History

During the 1990’s, the Golden Retriever Club of America held an annual silent art auction at its National Specialty to benefit its Golden Fund for Rescue.  Funds raised by this auction were used to support the development of numerous local Golden rescue organizations across the country.  In 1997, the newly formed Golden Retriever Foundation took over responsibility for the auction.  Since then, auction proceeds have continued to be used primarily to assist breed rescue, but may also be used to underwrite research and educational projects. Artists and organizations from around the world have generously donated their time and effort to this cause, and the auctions have featured among others, works by LeeAnn DeMoulpied-Morelli, Katie Ropar, Virginia Perry Gardiner, Ida Marino, Steven DaLuz and many, many more.

The late eighties and early nineties also saw the rise of  a “Top Twenty” competition of the year’s most successful conformation Goldens, held during the week of the GRCA National. In 2002, the GRF adopted the concept of a Gala event at the National Specialty, combining the Top Twenty competition and the art auction.  The Gala is a glamorous mix of beautiful artwork, top winning show dogs, an elegant cocktail party, and gourmet food.  This black tie event heightens awareness of GRF programs and generates much needed revenue.  It has quickly become the GRF’s signature event and a highlight of the Golden Retriever National Specialty week. The Golden Retriever Foundation is pleased to again host the Top Twenty Competition at the 2008 Gala.
